There is nothing spectacular about Aviator
This might be a pretty bold statement, "There is nothing spectacular about Aviator." Aviator received the highest number of nominations in the last Academy Award. If you check reviews written by film critics, pretty much everyone says how great the film is. I actually love many films that Martin Scorsese directed including Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas. But you know what? Aviator is not one of them. It's a big film about very interesting character, Howard Hughes, yet the film, in my opinion, does not tell interesting stories about Howard Hughes. How fascinating he was and what impact he made in the aviation industry. You can kind of see that Martin Scorsese tried to tell these fascinating tales, but you don't actually feel that as you watch the film.
There is something shady about Howard Hughes, though Howard Hughes was not exactly a gangster. He was very glamorous; after all, he founded TWA (that we know as one of companies that established the aviation industry, though Howard Hughes was not the original founder). The audience sees all narratives, but not the real story. The audience does not feel it.
Apparently Hollywood loves big films, and many film critics liked the film for this reason, but I dear to say that the quality is mediocre at best.
