Get really drunk before you watch "Coffee and Cigarettes"
"Coffee and Cigarettes" is a collection of short films; characters in all short film drink coffee and smoke cigarettes, so the film(the collection of films, more precisely) is named "Coffee and Cigarettes". Get really drunk before you watch "Coffee and Cigarettes". That's my advice, and you know what? It's very possible that the film director Jim Jarmusch directed the film while he also designed the film so that you're supposed to be so drunk that you can't even stand up straight when you watch the film.
This is a procrastination film; this is one of films designed for you to keep procrastinating for 1.5 - 2.0 hours. Basically, all characters in all short films are drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and procrastinating. There is no socioeconomic value; there is no real philosophy. The only thing you find is that they're all procrastinating over cheap coffee and cheap cigarettes.
One of short films is pretty funny though. There is a short film titled "Cousins?" featuring Alfred Molina. The short film isn't that bad actually. I might be over-criticizing American actors, but I say this. British people invented modern acting, and they have solid acting skills; Alfred Molina is no exception, and "Cousins?" is quite funny. It is true that the character has to be played by a British actor as the short film ridicules Hollywood and America, but I still think that the short film made a fine casting choice and Alfred Molina does a great job.
You know, that's about it. I praise Alfred Molina and "Cousins?", but there is not much else to say about the film. I've watch number of procrastination films including "Waking Life" (great film, by the way), and there are hits and misses. "Coffee and Cigarettes" is a miss, IMO.

Well!! I never realised before that Alfred Molina was British!!! You live & learn. Haven't seen the movie, by the way, but will look out for it.

It is probably not the best and greatest movie(Coffee and Cigarette) you'll ever watch, I'm afraid. But the short film featuring Alfred Molina is pretty good. He started featuring in major motion pictures relatively recently, and he featured in Spider-Man 2 last year. I think that has made his face look more familiar.
