Abstraction in life and Der Krieger und die Kaiserin
Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (The Princess and the Warrior) is a little strange film in the sense that the story is so abstract and characters in the film almost seem like they live on another planet, though they have physical presence on earth. However, as you watch the film and follow the story, you establish a certain connection between you and these characters. Why is that? It is my opinion that, though we feel like much of our life is logically explicable, it is not. Our decision making process is often very abstract, and the essence of decision making is not about being logical, but about understanding the flow. If and when you understand the flow and let go, things happen and life starts making sense. That is the kind of life that Der Krieger und die Kaiserin portrays (The Princess and the Warrior).
Tom Tykwer who directed Lola rennt (Run Lola Run) is the director of this film, Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (The Princess and the Warrior). One of the central questions of the film, Lola rennt (Run Lola Run), is how one can create his/her own life, while a lot of externalities heavily affect his own life. In many cases, there are so many externalities and they are so strong that one feels like he/she has no control over his destiny. When you ask "Is life only created from externalities?", Lola rennt (Run Lola Run), the film's answer is clearly No. Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (The Princess and the Warrior) does not ask exactly the same question, but it asks a similar question. The answer that Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (The Princess and the Warrior) gives is a little more complex, but it still emphasizes the fact that life is what you make of and life goes to a place where you lead to.
