Why Spike Lee is an important film maker

African Americans are a part of America, and they are not a whole different people like Germans (in Germany) are not a part of America and Chinese (in China) are not a part of America. However, African Americans have a different culture from the main stream American culture. They have a different perspective and they have different customs. Thus, there are stories that only they can tell. Whites, Hispanics, and Asian Americans can study African American culture and appreciate it, but they cannot overtake African American culture, nor can they represent African Americans while they pretend that they completely understand who African Americans are and what African American culture is like. This is why Spike Lee is a very important film maker. He understands African Americans and African American culture, and there are only a selected number of film makers who can tell stories from the perspective of African Americans.
